'My Mother's Daughter'
"Here's
the scoop on 'My Mother's Daughter.' This has been a long time
coming. I was waiting for a five year bout of writer's block to
go away, when I just decided, 'I'd better do this thing before
I hit menopause and my voice changes!' I've got a few more years
before that hits (hopefully) but I did it anyway. My biggest regret
in waiting so long is that my mom isn't here to see it come to
fruition. Which is why the CD is dedicated to her. She was an
amazing woman and I am so fortunate to have been blessed with
such a cool mom. Anyway, I picked some tunes that I liked. Borrowed
a couple from friends, and even managed to eek one out myself."

"We did this tune in one take. Unfortunately,
I flubbed the words. I basically sing the first verse twice. However,
the vibe is cool and I dig the motif my guitar player Joey came
up with on the spot. We had done this at a jam session with the
same instrumentation, so I was going for something kinda loose
and haunting, which is what we got."
Cold
Spell
"I used to do this tune with a band called
Lazy Boy, back in New York. They are now called Big Lazy because
a certain furniture manufacturer felt a little threatened by their
spooky presence. Anyway, my version is a little more rambunctious
than what Stephen Ulrich probably had in mind when he penned it
oh so many years ago. Ah hell its a great tune no matter
how ya slice it. Thanks Steve!"
Ain't
Misbehavin'
"I know, I know
this tune has been done
to death, but ya gotta admit its a damn good song. A lot
of people ask me to sing this one
so this one's for the
fans, baby. Had to show off Paul's lovely stride prowess too!"
Little
Monster
"Why is it the creepy guys from one's past
get a song and
well enough said on that. I wrote this tune
quite a while ago. I don't even recall whom it could be about.
Hmmmm

"I love every thing about this tune. I was
riding with my friend Frank Chang a few years back and this instrumental
came on his car radio. "This is a cool tune, Romy. You should
learn it." So I did. Truman Capote wrote the fabulous lyrics.
Gilbert's trumpet work on this one is sweet as honey!"
Guess
Who I Saw Today
"This song is so sad. He's cheating on her.
The bastard! My eyes well up by the end of the song and apparently
I give people goosebumps when I sing it. This song is dope."
Twisted
"Annie Ross is so friggin' cool. I just love
singing this tune. Although my final version is so damn fast.
It has a cartoon quality about it. Don't ya think?"
Upsettin'
Me
"This tune originally-originally appeared
on Buddy Blue's CD Guttersnipes and Zealots. It re-appeared on
his Dipsomania CD, with your's truly singing it. Now it's on my
CD. I just love Buddy's sexy "I gonna spank you" guitar
licks. Gives the CD a little spunk."
Them There Eyes
"Fun song. I love Billie Holiday's version.
Kaye Starr's version swings. And I think mine is lilting and kicky
at the same time if I do say so myself. And I did."
Company
"I wish I wrote this song. I've been in love with this tune
since junior high. Even though I didn't write it, I dedicate it
to my mom, who passed away in 1996. The take we chose for the
CD is not the most technically perfect (since I was near tears
as I sang it,) but it seemed to capture the emotion of the song
as well as my connection with it."
